The Brink of War ** Apparently convinced that the 2024 Reagan biopic did not sufficiently lionize the former president as the savior of the free world, writer/director Michael Russell Gunn takes a narrower historical focus that feels like a stage play adaptation gone horribly wrong.
Gunn addresses the 1986 meeting/don’t-call-it-a-summit between Reagan (Jeff Daniels) and Soviet Union general secretary Mikhail Gorbachev (Jared Harris) in Reykjavik, Iceland to address contentious issues around human rights, the Strategic Defense Initiative and arms reduction.
