Historic Chapman Library uses Carnegie donation to meet evolving needs of SLC’s Poplar Grove neighborhood.

Courtesy Photo The west side’s Poplar Grove neighborhood boasts Salt Lake City’s oldest library building, the Chapman Branch at 577 S. 900 West. Since its opening in 1918, following a donation from Andrew Carnegie, the Classical Revival-style building has been in continuous operation ever since.
To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, the Carnegie Foundation has distributed $10,000 donations to surviving Carnegie library systems nationwide.
