Erika Carlsen was sworn in as Salt Lake City’s newest council member on Jan. 5. She joins six returning members, and will serve as vice-chairperson for the first majority-female Council in city history. During a recent interview with City Weekly , Carlsen discussed her background and priorities for the session.
Her district spans the Ballpark, Liberty Park and 9th and 9th neighborhoods, which she described as a proud and diverse part of the city. The area is a mix of homeowners, renters and local businesses. But those voices have not always been represented before the Council, she said.
