CENTRAL CITY—Over the last several years, the Salt Lake City Board of Education has been grappling with how to reduce chronic absenteeism, in which students miss 18 days of school or more each year. The proportion of students deemed chronically absent was recently as high as 28%, district-wide, but now stands at 24.
